LIVE AND DANGEROUS: Member spills about reunion for Wu-Tang

By Matt Carter, Staff Writer

This Saturday at 4th and B, Wu-Tang Clan, a hip-hop collective seldom seen on the West Coast except for performances at the annual Rock The Bells festival, will mark the second date of its national “Rebirth Tour.” This time, the crew, featuring all surviving members, is embarking on new frontiers with the current roll call. For founding member U-God, it’s business as usual.

“We just do what we do,” he said. “Take care of our babies, trying to take care of our families, and that’s just what it is … People love for us to come out in the winter, right after Christmas, ‘cause they don’t have nothing else better to do but come see us. We give them a hardcore body rockin’ show. They love it.”

Known for his deep, easily recognizable flows, U-God most recently contributed heavily to Wu-Tang’s 2007 album “8 Diagrams” in addition to his favorable solo career outside the Clan. Along with the other members, Wu-Tang becomes a diverse chemistry shared between each member’s abilities, and U-God is focused on anticipating the group’s next move.

“Right now I feel like we got to dig into this next album and make it a heat rock, and let y’all know that we’re still here,” U-God said. “That’s basically what it’s going to be.”

Details on the group’s next effort are scant, but the tour’s sold-out performances are no sign of the group’s rabid cult following ever waning.

“We don’t give away our secrets before,” the rapper said. “I’m not going to give it away, it’s not going to happen. You know why? I want the element of surprise so I can bust you upside your head.”

From the countless artists inspired by Wu-Tang to the omnipresent force of its sphere of influence, wherever it goes it’s sure to make history. Be there because this event is sure to sell out.
