San Diego State football head coach Brady Hoke has agreed, in principle, to an extension of his contract through 2015.

Hoke will receive an increase in his base pay as well as a new bonus structure.

SDSU’s head coach will have the “opportunity with bonuses” to reach a new deal that could be worth more than $1 million per year when the deal is finalized, Athletic Director Jim Sterk said.

“Coach Hoke, in his second year with the Aztecs, has transformed this football program into one that is capturing the interest of the students, the faculty, the staff, alumni and friends of San Diego State as well as the entire San Diego community,” Sterk said.

As part of Hoke’s extension package, his assistant coaches will receive a pay raise, the football practice field will be renovated, there will be “hydrotherapy improvements” in the training area and the athletic center facilities will be refurbished.

“Those are all things that are important that you can move your organization in a first-class way,” Hoke said.

Sterk said the official details of the deal will be released when a “few finishing touches are finalized.”
