Campus Calendar

The Daily Aztec Campus Calendar lists events on and off campus as a service to San Diego State University students, faculty, staff and community.

Clubs, organizations, departments and local community groups may submit written entries to The Daily Aztec City Desk in the basement of the Business Administration and Mathematics building, Room 2. Entries may be faxed to 594-7277, attn: City Desk. Entries also may be e-mailed to dacity@mail.sdsu.edu. Requests will not be taken over the phone.

Entries must contain the full name of the club, organization or group; a brief description of the event or service; the time, date and full address of the location; the event fee, if applicable; and a telephone number for readers requesting more information.

Submissions are free and published on a space-available, first-come, first-served basis. The Aztec reserves the right to turn down entries. All submissions are subject to editing for content, space and clarity. Incomplete or illegible entries will be rejected.

The deadline for entries is 9 a.m. the Friday before the event is scheduled. The Campus Calendar runs daily.

Today, Jan. 28

* The Campus Brass Quintet will perform at noon on Monty’s Patio.

* Everyone is invited to join InterVarsity Christian Fellowship for some informal worship and ice cream sundaes. The meeting will be at the Lutheran Center on Hardy Avenue (east of the Health Center). IVCF is an inter-denominational Christian group of SDSU students. For details, call Mark Kelley at 460-5410.

Tomorrow, Jan. 29

* A Counseling and Psychological Services group focused on performance anxiety for music, dance and drama students meets weekly from 3 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. This group can be taken for one academic credit. For details, call 594-5220.

* Al-Anon, a self-help organization for friends and families of those suffering from alcoholism and drug abuse, will have an open meeting from noon to 1 p.m. in Student Services, Room 2109. For details, call 594-5220.

* The Asian/Pacific Islander American Students’ Group meets weekly from 11 a.m. to noon. The Counseling and Psychological Services group will focus on effective communication skills, time-management strategies, study skills and stress-reduction techniques. Call 594-5220 for details.

* Relationships will be the topic of four groups meeting Thursdays at Counseling and Psychological Services this semester. “Relationship Skills” will be the topic of two six-week groups and one semester-long group, all focusing on useful skills for understanding the nature of relationships. “My Rights in a Relationship” will be a confidential support group designed for women to discuss past, current or potential violence within their relationships. * Yavaz will perform Latin jazz at noon on Monty’s Patio.

* A brass sundial, a gift of the class of 1911 to the old Normal School, will be returned to the “new” SDSU campus after a long absence. The celebration at 3 p.m. in the Mediterranean Garden will also launch the second phase of the garden project, a collection of Mediterranean plants from around the world.

* Weekly meditations will be held at 3 p.m. at the Intersection House, 5717 Lindo Paseo. For details, call Paul at 286-5070.

* SDSU’s women’s basketball team will face San Jose State at 7:30 p.m. in the Event Center in San Jose.

Friday, Jan. 30

* International coffee hour will be held at noon in the International Student Center. The event is free.

* SDSU’s Department of Theater presents World Theatre Festival for Young Audiences from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Don Powell and Experimental theaters. The festival will continue on Saturday, Jan. 31. The cost is $12 for an all-day Saturday pass or $6 per play. Call 594-6884 or 594-5091 for details.
