SILENT LUNE

When people are honest, they’ll admit that a lot of the music produced by local bands is less than stellar and even downright bad. That being said, there are a few rare gems out there that make amazing music and should be recognized. An example of such a band is the local group Silent Lune.

Despite being a relatively new band, having formed in January of last year, the group hasn’t let that stop them from creating original and genuinely good music 8212; a true rarity. Silent Lune is comparable to a lighter version of Pearl Jam, with similar vocals and reminiscent-sounding instrumentation. However, the two could hardly be called the same. Instead, Silent Lune constructs its own unique sound, while at the same time mixing up the pace and sound of each song.

Perhaps the most notable quality of the band though, is how it isn’t afraid to add in well-performed instrumentals between lyrics, a feature that usually only well-established bands incorporate. Silent Lune pulls it off beautifully, putting its musical talent on display for all to witness.

The group’s talent and performance have not gone unnoticed either, as it has appeared on the television show “Studio 54,” and has also won the Battle of the Bands competition at Harrah’s Rincon Casino.

When asked what it was like to win a tournament that certainly carries an amount of weight, drummer Jason Dean said, “There were a lot of good bands honestly, I was a little intimidated. These are usually a popularity contest and we didn’t bring a lot of people. We all just really busted the area, and it was a real honor to win.”

After witnessing a live show by Silent Lune, it isn’t too much of a surprise that it locked up the win. Its live shows are even more entertaining than the album version, a very surprising feature that few groups can boast. The energy can be felt from the stage as the power trio rocks out onstage, delivering a loud and upbeat performance while simultaneously keeping a clean and refined sound. Like its music, the lyrics are honest and sincere, dealing with everyday scenes. “When I write lyrics, it has to do with what I’m feeling at the moment, doing little chapters in my life, it seems pointless, but it’s part of life,” vocalist/guitarist Rodger Chavez said.
