As we progress into the 21st century the true capabilities of the World Wide Web are still unfolding. The current functionality, flexibility and connectivity the Internet offers is far greater than anyone could have imagined.

Our generation is molded around the notion of open sources and free information. Just last month, 9.9 billion searches on core searches engines such as Google and Yahoo were conducted by Americans alone.

A recent study estimated a week’s print of The New York Times contains more information than someone would likely learn in a lifetime in the 18th century. The breadth and depth of information is historic and the means of communicating that information has become incredibly easy and convenient.

One Web site is pioneering the movement of open source and free-valued information. It connects the world’s most brilliant minds, eclectic entrepreneurs and executive talent via streaming video free to all. “Technology, Entertainment, and Design,” started as a conference to bring together the world’s most fascinating thinkers and doers.

From Bill Gates to Jane Goodall, “TED” speakers are strictly allotted 18 minutes to share their thoughts and visions of a better tomorrow. There is no preference of hierarchy or entitlement, one speaker is no more important than the other. Each speaker is an expert in their field, attempting to leverage their knowledge and broaden horizons. The Web site stands behind the motto of “Ideas worth spreading.”

Membership to the annual “TED” conference is highly selective and considered extremely honorable. Many ask, is “TED” elitist? The Web site admits it is, but in a good way. Although membership is costly and a majority of members have been wildly successful, “TED” attendees are on the forefront of solving or discovering some of the toughest issues facing our world today.

Mahatma Ghandi once said, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.”

Adhering to Ghandi’s fundamental maxim, the remarkable speakers of “TED” pull back the sheet and tell it how it is. It reveals the principles our society lacks and share how its innovations, ideas and concepts will solve them.

The videos are unequivocally inspiring and are highly recommended for students. Whether you are watching TV or need a break from studying, www.ted.com is the panacea for actionable minds that are ready to move.
