It didn’t look so pretty in the first half, but the San Diego State University Aztecs rallied back from a 14-point deficit to beat the U.S. Air Force Academy Falcons 27-20. Junior quarterback Quinn Kaehler had another impressive game, completing 15 of 26 passes for 249 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Junior running back Adam Muema continued to look like his old self and ran for 86 yards on 18 carries.
The players of the game, however, were freshman running back Donnel Pumphrey and junior wide receiver Ezell Ruffin. Ruffin caught six passes for 106 yards, including a 62-yard touchdown completion. Pumphrey ran for 117 yards and 17 carries. He scored the game-winning touchdown with 1:39 left in the game.
After an 0-3 start to the season, SDSU has won three straight games. It is 2-0 in the Mountain West Conference. The Aztecs have a bye week next week and will play Fresno State University at Qualcomm Stadium on Oct. 26.
