It was a rough day all around for the San Diego State baseball team.

SDSU was unable to get anything going offensively and couldn’t find a way to shut down the University of San Diego as the Aztecs dropped a 9-2 decision to the Toreros on Sunday afternoon at Tony Gwynn Stadium.

“Seven runs in four innings — right now for us that’s going to be hard to overcome,” head coach Tony Gwynn said. “So we’ve got to do a better job, got to make better pitches.”

Freshman pitcher T.J. Kendzora struggled in his second start of the season, giving up seven runs on 10 hits in 3.2 innings. The Toreros jumped on Kendzora early with two runs in the first inning and then two more in the third.
After USD put the game out of reach with three runs in the fourth inning, SDSU (1-5) managed to find its offense with two runs in the bottom half of the frame. But, the Aztecs were only able to notch two more hits after that, and the Toreros cruised to victory.

The Aztecs fell to USD, 6-3, on Friday afternoon, and Saturday’s game was postponed because of rain.

SDSU returns to the field at 6 p.m. tonight when it faces No. 2 UCLA at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
