Plaid has always been a fall fashion staple. The fabric practically smells like fresh pencils and pumpkin pie. Whether it’s because of nostalgia for the grungy 90s or the memory of a grade school uniform, the college crowd loves plaid. This year is no different. However, the checks are back in a different way.

For this season, plaid is best worn on sophisticated and updated shapes. Ditch the over-sized button-up flannel shirt for a plaid bustier. Fashionistas can still highlight the print’s punky side while staying feminine in a flirty plaid dress.

Donning an updated version of this cozy classic will only enhance one’s on-campus leaf crunching.
