Prior to last weekend’s series with Air Force, the San Diego State baseball team hadn’t lost to the Falcons since 2002 when it dropped all three games in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The streak looked like it would go on when the Aztecs crushed Air Force 15-1 on Thursday, but that wasn’t the case.

The Falcons ended SDSU’s successful run and picked up their first two victories in Mountain West Conference play.

On Saturday, the Aztecs (12-28, 6-9 MWC) gave up runs in six of the eight innings and were unable to produce much against Air Force starter Sean Carley in a 14-7 loss.

The Falcons (16-24, 2-8 MWC) jumped on sophomore pitcher Bryan Crabb early and often, scoring seven runs on seven hits in 4.2 innings. Crabb earned the loss, but his fellow Aztecs didn’t fare much better as each of the five pitchers gave up at least one run.

After scoring twice in the top of the fifth, it appeared SDSU would keep things close, trailing by just one run. However, Air Force quickly squashed those hopes by tallying five runs in the bottom half of the frame to take a comfortable 9-3 advantage.

After both teams scored a run in the seventh inning, the Falcons diminished any chance for a comeback by scoring four more times in the bottom half of the eighth for a 14-4 lead.

The Aztecs still rallied for three runs in the top of the ninth as Carley left after a solid eight innings of work.

Up next for SDSU is a 6 p.m. contest tonight against UC Riverside at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
