It’s hard to imagine what the world would be like if there were nonational borders – the scenarios are endless. For agovernment, borders are established to maintain structure within thelines drawn. They are meant to keep people within a region, as wellas sustain a set of regulations pertaining to their residents.Borders have been fought over for centuries and are still the reasonfor conflicts across the globe.
People who are border-free – like band foragers or tribemembers with no notion of, or affiliation to, a nation – arein essence, trapped within these borders against their will. To them, survival requires periods of collective moving whether for hunting, agricultural or weather purposes. Yet to governments, a large groupof undocumented moving people can be a potential threat.
If I had my choice, I wouldn’t want a border getting in the way ofmy destinations, yet the chances of that happening are highlyunlikely. However, there is a magnificent group of people who get todo just that – although, their reasoning for doing so has morepurpose than my own.
