A problem with the RegLine system caused students who registeredfor classes yesterday a little stress.
Students who started calling RegLine around 9 a.m. were told theycouldn’t register for classes because they were not enrolled, eventhough they were San Diego State University students, said KathleenDeaver, who’s in charge of RegLine operations.
Deaver said Admissions and Records does not know the cause of theproblem and a programmer is looking into the RegLine system. She saidit will hopefully be fixed by today.
“It’s a problem and we’re addressing it,” Deaver said.
Yesterday was the third day RegLine was open for next semester. The problem yesterday affected students who register early withpriority registration.
Deaver said students who called back a second time were able toregister.
The problem with the system only surfaced today and students whoregistered earlier in the week did not have any problems, she said.Hopefully, she said, the problem will be pinpointed at the latestbefore Monday when freshmen begin signing up for classes.
Deaver said students who did not register yesterday because of theproblem should call back today.
Students who are eligible for priority registration include:students in the honors program, Associated Students officers, athletes, students with disabilities, marching band members andresident advisors.
RegLine order depends on class standing: first freshmen, thengraduate students, seniors, juniors and lastly sophomores.
This wasn’t the first time SDSU students said they had problemswith RegLine.
Last semester, RegLine only counted completed units when itregistered students for Fall 2000 causing some students to beconsidered a grade lower. In August, Deaver told The Daily Aztec thatprogrammers failed to install a component that countsunits-in-progress when it converted the program in Spring.
However, she said since all students were affected by the mistake, there was no significant change in RegLine dates at that time.
