Former San Diego State basketball player Marcus Slaughter signed a two-year contract with the Miami Heat last week.
He’s playing on Miami’s summer-league team in the Orlando Summer League and will likely be a back-up forward next season for the Heat. His play in Orlando will help determine his future role in Miami’s rotation.
Slaughter left in spring of 2006 to enter the NBA Draft, but he wasn’t selected. He then played a year in the Turkish Basketball League, where he averaged 13.3 points and 10.2 rebounds per game and was named the Turkish League All-Star Game MVP. He was contacted by several NBA teams over the last couple of months and the Heat could provide him with the greatest opportunity for playing time.
Fellow Aztecs Brandon Heath and Mohamed Abukar are both still unsigned and playing in summer-leagues.
