Cesar E. Chavez Commemorative Luncheon

As part of the Cesar E. Chavez Civic Responsibility Series, San Diego State will be celebrating the Latino/a community and the many historical and humane contributions given by Chavez. The luncheon will include a scholarship presentation, which will go to students with farming backgrounds. Individual seats cost $50, while a full eight-person table costs $300. All proceeds will go to support the Cesar E. Chavez Commemorative Scholarship Fund.
Music Event
4:30 to 5:30 p.m., Aztec Center Starbucks
Pop artist Jane Lui will perform an acoustic-pop show for attendees as a part of San Diego’s local talent series.
Open-Mic night
7 to 9 p.m., Aztec Center Starbucks
If you can’t make it to see Lui perform earlier at Starbucks, Associated Students and Cultural Arts and Special Events are sponsoring an open-mic night. Whether you have musical talent, poetic inspiration, or a comedic personality, the microphone will be free to all who wish to share.
Thursday:
Concert
Noon to 1 p.m., Aztec Center Outdoor Patio
Before you leave campus today, make sure you check out Exit, a rock band performing for students and the public in Aztec Center.
Last year, the band was brought on stage by U2 to play “Out of Control” at the sold-out concert at Staples Center in Los Angeles, according to the band’s Web site. Their sound is rooted in such bands as U2, The Beatles and The Police.
Nurses Now Career Fair
10 to 2 p.m., Hepner Hall quad
Future nurses can come to the nursing career fair to network with representatives from Nurses Now partner hospitals and organizations. SDSU Nurses Now is a six-year community partnership program that has been established to address the nursing shortage issue. Partners include several prestigious hospitals, including Kaiser Permanente, UCSD Medical Center and Children’s Hospital and Health Center.
Gender Identity Lecture
4 to 5:30 p.m., Love Library, Room 2203
Paul Sargent will give a lecture titled “Children and Gender Identity,” sponsored by Associated Students and CASE as a part of the ongoing lecture series. The event is open to the public, with a 50-person room capacity.
Friday:
Emerging Health Issues in California
Noon, Hepner Hall, Room 221
This lecture, sponsored by the Graduate School of Public Health, features Dr. Mark Horton, a California state health officer. Horton will discuss how California is preparing for health challenges of the 21st century. The event is free and open to the public.
