Although the team races along the water, the San Diego Statewomen’s crew team appears to be on the right track.
SDSU finished sixth last Sunday at the Head of the Lake Regatta inSeattle, Wash. Host school Washington won the competition.
“Our results show we’re doing well,” said head coach ScottSteckel. “We’re keeping our noses to the grindstone, trying to getbetter.”
The junior varsity team also saw action last Sunday againstvarsity teams and finished in 10th place out of 25 at the NewportAutumn Rowing Festival. Steckel said he’s proud of both results.
“We have to continue to get more precise for spring, continue ourtraining,” he said. “We’re just getting stronger for the remainder ofthe season.”
Senior team captain Teresa Bond has stroked the varsity eight asits lead rower and has been a steady force in the team’s push thisseason.
“Teresa’s been a great leader and has set the pace for us,”Steckel said.
Steckel also said his team is racing at a strong pace this seasonand is hoping to improve its times for next spring, when it counts.
“The question is, are we going to stay healthy,” he said. “It’llbe exciting to see our results come the rest of the year.”
SDSU finishes its fall season with the Long Beach ChristmasRegatta in December.
