University Police are investigating potential fraudulentsolicitation for the Fire Victims Relief Fund. Anyone on campus whois approached by an individual or individuals claiming to be fromsuch charities should not give out any personal information or money.
No reputable charities regarding fire relief are known to be oncampus. Anyone who knows of suspicious activities, or anyone who isapproached by solicitors on campus, is encouraged to contactUniversity Police at (619) 594-1991.
Purse stolen from parking structure
A female student’s purse was stolen as she walked to her carMonday on level 3 of Parking Structure III. Reports say 18-year-oldAyanle Farah, a male non-student, grabbed her purse from behind andran through the structure when the victim yelled for assistance.Witnesses at the scene chased the suspect when he jumped into a green1996 Isuzu Rodeo with three other non-students. Another suspect inthe car, 19-year-old Abdirashid Aden, reportedly yelled “Don’t messwith my boy or I’ll shoot you right now” to one of the male studentwitnesses, according to reports. No weapon was seen by any of thewitnesses.
The suspects were later seen driving westbound on El CajonBoulevard when police stopped them around 9 p.m. Witnesses and thevictims were called to the location where they identified thesuspects. All four suspects were arrested and booked into county jailon charges of robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery, according topolice. Aden was also charged with terrorist threats for yelling atthe male victim. All of the victim’s property was recovered.Additional property found in the car is still being investigated.
Suspects found with methamphetamine incar
Two non-students were reportedly seen searching cars withflashlights at 11:40 p.m. on Nov. 6 in the parking lot nearUniversity Towers. Officers responded to a call of possible vehicleburglary and received consent to search the car of the suspects.Officers found 1.3 grams of methamphetamine in the vehicle of thesuspects, 22-year-old Jessie Havens and 24-year-old William Payne.The suspects were booked on charges of possession of methamphetamine.
Student throws rock at another student outsideFraternity Row
A group of students walked by Fraternity Row just after midnightNov. 6 while making derogatory comments toward fraternity members whowere standing outside on a balcony of the structure. After words wereexchanged, 20-year-old Nicholas Caputo reportedly picked up a rockand threw it at one of the fraternity members, according to reports.The victim ducked and was not struck by the rock. Caputo fled thescene but was later arrested without incident and charged withassault with a deadly weapon.
