Where do you go when you just have to get away, but you’re hungry and the hours are creeping nearer to the test? For most students, studying habits are just like any other habit – one that has been developed over time and feels comfortable. For those of you still looking for a place to get things done and enjoy a bite to eat, here are a few options. Reserve Book RoomThe perennial “all-star” of the studying world, San Diego State’s library boasts an impressive 6.4 million-plus collection of various volumes, government publication pieces, maps and sound and video recordings to help you find whatever you need. But when it comes time to actually study, you need energy to get you through the night. Right across from the “Dome” or the “UFO,” as some call the massive glass library, is the Aztec Market. Grab a Red Bull – maybe a few – and some munchies to get ready for a long night with the books. The RBR is open 24 hours a day to SDSU students looking to get some quiet time to study by themselves or even with a group. Its huge floor space can hold hundreds of students trying to get things done, while the wireless Internet keeps students connected to online power points and study guides. The Egyptian Tea RoomA few blocks down from campus on College Avenue is a small orange building with massive potential for the avid studier. The 3-year-old Middle Eastern restaurant and hookah lounge is home to many Aztec students – and for good reason. The Egyptian Tea Room has “Hookah Happy Hour” from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday for those looking to get away and enjoy some hookah while catching up on their schoolwork. “On most days after lunch, the outside patio and inside is filled with students taking advantage of the quiet area,” an Egyptian Tea Room employee said. “We even have free wireless Internet, so students don’t miss a beat.” And with delicious Middle Eastern dishes, such as hummus and pita, students can munch while they learn.
HomeWhether you live off campus or in the residence halls, studying at home can be a challenge if you don’t focus. “I love studying at home,” graphic design junior Dave Sibley said. “Everything you need is already there. You can eat when you want, take breaks when you want – it’s just comfortable.” Staying home to get things done is a huge advantage for finding some food to get you through the hardest chapters. Make a pizza, some Top Ramen or grab something to go. Nothing beats sitting in your sweats, eating food that you love and doing what you need to get done.Studying is hard, time consuming and important – so do it right. Grab some munchies and pick a place where you feel most comfortable, and you know you’ll get things done.
