California Kebab closed its Rolando location early this semester to focus on its new, larger location, California Kebab & Beer Garden in Pacific Beach. Yogurtland will fill the vacant space.
The Mediterranean-style restaurant was popular among San Diego State students searching for a healthier alternative to fast-food.
Managers Alex Pierson and JC Hall opened the SDSU location in 2009. They focused on making food with fresh ingredients and using unique house-made sauces to add flavor.
“California Kebab was my favorite restaurant,” communication junior Jaime Wilson said. “I’m so sad it’s not going to be open here anymore.”
The new California Kebab opened in May last year and features oceanfront view on the second floor. Inside the restaurant is an on-site brewery, operated by Amplified Ale Works, which brewed its first batch in November.
Although SDSU students won’t have the nearby location of California Kebab anymore, they can still enjoy dishes along with a cold beer or a glass of wine at California Kebab & Beer Garden.
California Kebab &Beer Garden is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
