Spooky show promises laughs instead of usual Halloween frights

For those who do not like to be scared on the spookiest night of the year, there is an alternative way to celebrate the final day of October. The National Comedy Theatre will be hosting a holiday themed “Halloween Spooktacular,” that is sure to have audiences laughing their heads off … figuratively, that is.

NCT is a popular troop that offers improvisational comedy, competition-style. Two teams fight for laughs as a referee judges the actions of the players. Seven to 10 games, chosen from an inventory of more than 200, are played during each show.

The production, which has been performed in San Diego for the past decade, will feature Halloween-oriented subjects, freaky games and an ending that according to signonsandiego.com, is sure to be “so bizarre that it will be discussed until Thanksgiving.”

This year’s show will feature all new comedy scenes, games picked from audience suggestions and intense sketches, including one in which a performer’s head is under a bucket of water.

The spooky show is a great option for those wishing to celebrate the holiday in a festive way. It may not have people squirming in their seats, but like NCT says, “ if you are going to die, you might as well die laughing.”

The “Halloween Spooktacular” will be at 7:30 and 9:45 p.m. on Oct. 29 and Oct. 30, with an additional “Midnight Spooktacular” at 11:45 p.m on Saturday.
