The Greek community has been welcoming its newest members all week.

After a long recruitment process, the Pan-hellenic sororities launched this week with Bid Day. “Bid day is when sororities give out invitations to join a specific house,” said Doug Case, coordinator for fraternity and sorority life.

There were 589 bids distributed with a record-breaking quota of 80 women per sorority.

In addition to passing out invitations, the Pan-hellenic council, which is made up of members from different sororities who help potential new members choose a house, had a special surprise. Throughout the recruitment process, in order to eliminate any biases, the women on the council hid their association with their house. The surprise was the revelation of what house each new members’ Rho Chi, or sorority adviser, is in. Theatre arts junior Rachel Hoey of Gamma Phi Beta said she absolutely loved the process.

“Revealing is a fun way of ending the recruitment process,” Hoey said. “It’s fun to see the shock on the girls’ faces when they discover what house their Rho Chi is in.”

For the Interfraternity Council, recruitment events have been hosted throughout the week. The men who are interested in joining a fraternity should find out if they got into the house they wanted by the end of this week.
