Hundreds of prospective San Diego State students and their families flocked to campus for Explore SDSU.
Tours were held throughout the campus, including the library, the Aztec Recreation Center, the residence halls and many other facets of Aztec life. Tour groups ranged in size from about a dozen for a library tour to about 50 for the campus-wide tours. For those who were not taking a tour, there were dozens of booths representing student organizations, academic departments and businesses.
Prospective students got a taste of SDSU’s dining halls and had the opportunity to attend open houses and enjoy live performances from local bands such as Fever Sleeves. Current SDSU students volunteered as tour guides for the event.
“I think Explore SDSU is a really cool way for all the incoming students to see the school and get a really good idea of campus life, what it’s like at San Diego State, what it’s really like to be an Aztec,” public relations sophomore Haley Messner said. “They get more of a feel of all of our organizations. Hopefully they will want to come afterward.”
There was an air of excitement throughout campus as they met with the representatives of their intended majors and members of SDSU’s clubs and Greek organizations.
“The campus is really beautiful, and what I liked most about today was talking to the different booths of the programs I’m involved in or want to be involved in,” one prospective student said. “I spent most of my time at the Exercise and Nutritional Sciences booth because I’m interested in athletic training. Those girls had a lot to say and it was really worthwhile talking to them to influence my decision. So I might be coming here which is a great thing.”
While many potential Aztecs were excited by the booths and clubs, others were awed by the campus itself.
“I’ve really been impressed by how open it is, the weather’s been great,” another prospective student said. “It all seems really modern and a couple classrooms have really nice, comfortable seats. I checked out the library and that was really cool too, its way bigger than any library I’ve ever been in. I’ve just generally been impressed by the scale of it all, how big it is.”
Explore SDSU, as a signature event of SDSU Month, effectively conveys the essence of life as an Aztec.
