California State University Unit 6, which represents 1,100 skilled trades workers, is preparing for an Unfair Labor Practice strike against the university for alleged unpaid contractual raises. 

Picket lines and rallies will take place from Feb. 17-20 across the 22 CSU campuses, including SDSU, and the Chancellor’s Office. The union warns that all campus construction and deliveries will be halted, and advises the public to avoid campuses during the strike.

The strike, authorized by the Teamsters Bargaining Team, has been in the works since CSU Unit 6 voted for it in December. The union alleges that the CSU and Chancellor Mildred Garcia denied skilled trades workers their July 2025 contractual and seniority-based raises, citing federal budget cuts as the reason.

However, union leaders reported that the CSU received a zero-interest loan from the state to bridge those funding gaps. The union also alleged that the CSU has failed to bargain in good faith, alleging “lowball” offers and disrespect. 

These offers, union leaders say, come just weeks after the CSU Board of Trustees overturned the presidential salary increase cap and raised the salaries of 13 university presidents, including SDSU President Adela de la Torre. 

In a release, Teamsters Local 2010 Vice President Ernesto Torres said: “The CSU would much rather give presidents and executives 9% raises than to invest in the futures of skilled trades workers who keep the heating and air working, the water running, the lights on and our campuses safe for students and the CSU community.”
