When you think of stadium food, it’s typical to think of deep-fried, freezer food that makes you question whether what you paid for to enjoy your game was worth it, or not. This 2026 season, San Diego FC has introduced a new twist to gameday food that will elevate and transform our stadium food experience.
On Feb. 17, 2026, Snapdragon Stadium, home to the San Diego State Aztecs, San Diego Wave FC and San Diego FC, hosted “San Diego FC: Taste of Snapdragon.” An event revealing the integration of San Diego local vendors into the 2026 San Diego FC food lineup.
Showcased and available to try were over twenty-five items from over thirteen vendors, ranging from specialty cocktails, tacos from San Diego’s iconic The Taco Stand, traditional game day favorite street dogs from Socal Street Dogs & Esquites and a twist on the Latin American specialty, Buñuelos, called S’mores Nachos.
Executive Chef – Enrique Hernandez
The food menu’s biggest contributor, and Snapdragon Stadium’s Executive Chef, Enrique Hernandez, expressed his inspiration for the array of food and his excitement for the public to get their hands on these items.
“I have a lot of great dishes that we’re going to put out this year. There’s probably close to 80 different dishes that we have in the stadium,” he said.
It is clear how much thought was put into each dish. Every item has a story and inspiration that led to its creation. Shown through presentation, display and flavors, you can see the levels of detail that were thought out when finalizing the menu.
“There are a lot of local restaurants we partnered with from San Diego. And we’re bringing it to one location, and the beauty about that is that it’s all made in-house. The preparation that goes into these dishes takes a team to prepare these items and to be able to execute them. It takes talent, and it takes skill and what we’re doing this year is really focusing on where the product comes from. The chefs ensure the food is fresh and elevated,” stated Hernandez.

Troy Johnson
Food writer, co-owner of San Diego Magazine, Food Network judge and San Diego Native, Troy Johnson, is the best to speak on all things culinary.
“For the longest time, professional sports didn’t give a damn about food,” said Johnson. “It was just the entertainment on the field, that’s what they cared about, but if you really want to be a professional sports organization that cares and comes through on its promise about being about the city, you have to invite the locals in.”
If Johnson expresses his enthusiasm for the game-day menu, it is definitely something to be excited about.
“Inviting them into the house for game day is the best way to really be a true part of the city. Especially people who are coming here from other teams and other cities. They can come to a game and get a taste of something that’s become an iconic food in the city. Ideally, the way it works is that you try the food at the game, and then you go find the place out in San Diego itself. So [the Snapdragon] is kind of a tasting room for some of San Diego’s success stories in food,” said Johnson.
Blending Food With Our Neighboring Cultures
What stood out the most was the incorporation of different cultures. One of the main inspirations is Mexico. Some of the dishes up for grabs were esquites, agua frescas, carne asada nachos and more. This initiative demonstrates the importance of melding the cultures of our neighboring countries, especially with the diversity of San Diego FC’s fanbase.
Johnson said, “The only reason why San Diego’s food scene took off was that it was a confluence of cultures between Mexico and San Diego, and all the cultures that have come. A lot of the players are Hispanic and Latin American. The food has to replicate and speak to the kind of people that you’re employing, putting on the team, the personalities that you’ve invested in, and the cultures that you’re representing. It should all be on the pitch and on the plate,” he said.
Most Anticipated Dishes
The menu this season gives a vast selection for all types of foodies. Whether you want something healthy or treat game day as a cheat day, San Diego FC has something for you.
“Just because I’m at a game doesn’t mean that I want to just blow my diet for the next year and a half. Maybe I want a salad, maybe I want something fresh, then on the other end of the spectrum, there’s s’more nachos.” expressed Johnson.
Many different flavors and styles of cuisine were incorporated. What were some favorites from taste-testing, and which items should fans look forward to eating on game day?
“This year specifically, we’ve got The Fish Shop, and we’re doing fish and chips. There are also the pork and nachos, then we’re bringing in The Girls’ Deli, where we’re making some amazing sandwiches,” said Hernandez.
Social Media Influencer, Taylor Polcyn, said, “My favorite snack, which I was not expecting, was the esquites. I’m really excited to eat those during match days, and I’m really looking forward to trying the s’mores nachos.”
Good food and a great match? What could be a better way to spend an evening? San Diego FC’s menu will debut on their first home game of the season on Saturday, Feb. 21.
