The battle to create a definitive identity comes as no easy task, especially for a young female trying to assimilate into the fast-paced New York lifestyle.

Ruth Fowler’s paperback memoir “Girl, Undressed,” formerly titled “No Man’s Land,” vividly illustrates the transformation of a Cambridge college graduate into an eccentric American stripper, based on the life of Fowler herself.

Under the pseudonym “Mimi,” Fowler divulges her most intimate and extraordinary experiences as a financially struggling, undocumented stripper in the slums of Manhattan, N.Y.. Yet in the midst of her budding stripping career, Mimi finds herself under attack by her conflicting identities and an unforeseen romantic possibility.

“Girl, Undressed,” although borderline offensive and brutally honest, is a practically limitless memoir that provides its readers with a first-hand look into the darkest depths of an industry usually considered socially taboo.

“Mimi” Fowler lets you peer not only into her world, but also the world of her unique clientele.
“Mr. Pedophile is standing next to me,” she claims in one situation.

“Can you be a little girl? Can you be a little girl for me?”

“Honey I’m 26. Buy a f8212;-ing cabbage patch kid if that’s what you want.”

From beginning to end, Fowler leaves nothing to the imagination and manages to encapsulate the atmosphere of the seemingly forbidden industry in such a way that makes the reader feel like they are there. It’s raw, it’s real and it’s hard to put down.
