While the San Diego State men’s basketball team was pummeling BYU Saturday evening, the SDSU softball team was preparing for a huge victory of its own. On Sunday, in the Aggie Invitational held at College Station in Texas, the Aztecs dominated Mississippi Valley State 11-3 in a six-inning victory.
The action started to heat up in the bottom of the first inning when freshman Lorena Klopp had a two-run home run. Klopp finished the day with three hits, four RBI and two runs scored.
The rest of the team performed exceptionally well as the Aztecs tallied 12 hits. Senior right-fielder Jessica Camello doubled twice and scored twice, senior catcher Eva Sahatdjian knocked two doubles and sophomore pitcher Kamerin May scored two runs and a double.
May pitched the start of the game and gave up three runs on five hits over 4.1 innings, but followed through by striking out five. Junior pitcher Bailey Micetich did an outstanding job of allowing no runs in the game’s remaining innings. She struck out one and allowed two hits.
The Aztecs will next face St. Louis at 7 p.m. tonight at the SDSU Softball Stadium.
