Despite its best efforts, the music genre emo still lives on. Produced by Vagrant and Drive-Thru Records, Senses Fail’s newest album, “Life Is Not A Waiting Room,” stays true to the stereotype of screamo-style music with emotionally charged lyrics.
With its fourth album, Senses Fail fills the eardrums of listeners with an intense and brutal sound. Hard guitar riffs accompanied by sharp screaming are a constant throughout the album, and although there are a few instances of variety, for the most part each song sounds familiar to the preceding and following track.
Lyrically, the dreadful moans of a bitter and depressing life are expressed through very dark and abysmal writings. For examples, the songwriter wishes to die in particularly creative ways. He also sings about his extraordinary hatred for his father. Happy times. Unfortunately, nearly every song consists of such material, making for a rather depressing and originality-deprived album.
Overall the album has an initial feel of a fun and fast-paced calamity. However, after the initial high of intensity from the hard-pounding guitar and the occasional deep screams, the listener realizes each song sounds dreadfully similar. Add into the mix downer lyrics and the listener is left with either the feeling of bleeding-heart sympathy, or severe cynicism.
