Associated Students elections
Five executive positions and many representative positions will soon be open to a student election.
Executive and representative applications became available on Jan. 26 with a submission deadline of Feb. 13 at 4 p.m. It is open to all students who must decide if they have the time and resources to commit to a very competitive election process. Election week will take place March 16 to 19.
Associated Students has added new workshops for executive hopefuls today and tomorrow. The workshops give aspiring students a crash course in running for an office and the available positions, Executive Director of A.S. Dan Cornthwaite said.
Sources within A.S. admit that top spots can be hotly contested, and while A.S. representatives may not talk openly about it, more than a few are eyeing the positions and wondering if they can make it all the way to the top.
Aztec Nights
A new report on Aztec Nights is giving last fall’s program high marks. The report found that the events were a successful way to involve freshmen students in campus activities sans alcohol. In addition, the events helped to create a 50 percent decrease in alcohol/drug incident reports. The three favorite events were ARC After Dark, Campus Carnival and the Red & Black Dance.
The council recommended that future events establish the Aztec Nights program under a centralized leadership and provide better marketing for the program.
