Halftime update: Aztecs lead Lumberjacks 24-0

Well, this San Diego State football season has started much better than last year’s. At the half, the Aztecs lead the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks 24-0.

Out of SDSU’s 22 starters, 11 are making their first career NCAA start today–eight on defense. But the defense has looked solid, only allowing 39 yards on the ground and 73 yards through the air.

SDSU has been led by its running backs, sophomore Donnel Pumphrey and junior Chase Price, who have combined for 116 yards and two touchdowns. Sophomore wide receiver Lloyd Mills also had a nice, trick-play run for 33 yards.

Senior quarterback Quinn Kaehler’s accuracy hasn’t looked great, but he’s made some nice connections with senior wide receiver Ezell Ruffin and redshirt sophomore Eric Judge. Kaehler is 13-20 for 160 yards and a touchdown. Ruffin has four catches for 53 yards, and Judge has four catches for 45 yards.

Junior transfer kicker Donny Hageman made a 48-yard field goal and missed a 46-yard attempt.
