It has been confirmed by U.S. officials and the president that terrorist leader Osama Bin Laden is dead. He was reportedly killed last week in Pakistan.
His body is in the U.S.’s possession and officials say he was killed in ground operations, not by a predator drone, according to the Associate Press.
In a national security address, President Barack Obama briefly described how U. S. intelligence found Bin Laden.
The president started by saying shortly after taking office, he met with CIA director Leon Panetta to make sure finding Bin Laden was a “top priority.”
Obama said he was originally briefed last August on a possible lead to Bin Laden and as more information came in up until last week, he decided it was “time to take action.”
Bin Laden was found in Pakistani compound. Obama said the U.S. worked with Pakistan to find Bin Laden.
“Justice has been done,” Obama said.
The president continued to urge Americans to come together in light of this event, similarly to how they did after 9/11.
“We must and we will remain vigilant,” Obama said.
