Paqui: Taking a bid of faith

I waited for this moment for an entire week — bid day.

My heart pounded and my mind raced as I carefully opened the envelope that concealed what the next four years of my college life would be like. There it was, exactly what I had been so eagerly waiting for. I was now a member of Pi Beta Phi.

It was probably one of the happiest moments of my life.

There are all these perceived notions of a sorority girl, of course: dramatic, wild, superficial. But I chose to join a sorority for other reasons — I wanted a place to call home and girls to call my sisters. It may sound a bit corny, but while I was rushing, the Pi Phi house was the only one in which I actually felt most at home. Once I realized how much I looked up to all the girls how much I hoped to some day represent the house in the same way that they do, I knew that was where I wanted to be.

Being in a sorority also means getting my full college experience. San Diego State is so big — it’s nice to be able to belong to something that is so involved on campus. Even after a few days, I can already tell that Greek life really does make the school a lot smaller. It seems wherever I go, I see one of my sisters.

Best of all, I already have a full calendar with all the events planned throughout the year. From the philanthropy events, to the football games, to the dances and exchanges, I know that I will never be bored. But the one thing I am looking forward o the most is getting a Big Sis. Since I have always been the Big Sis in my family, it’ll be nice to have someone I can look up to and go to anything for.

I can not wait to see what these next four years will bring me — and I know that the memories will last me a lifetime. Joining a sorority will not only give me amazing friendships and opportunities, it will give me sisters for life. That alone is most important to me.
