Tights are quite possibly my favorite holiday accessory. I become giddy with excitement as I pull them over my legs and stare at the transformation of a simple skirt or dress into the perfect holiday outfit. They provide just the right amount of warmth on a cool December day, while adding a unique touch to an otherwise ordinary outfit. I am happy to say that unconventional tights have made their impression on 2010; we are seeing more colored and patterned tights emerge on runways as well as on Fashionistas street side. Lace, floral, or striped; red, yellow or purple; the possibilities are endless! The multitude of patterns crate an illusion of different textures that contrast well with solid pieces, while the array of colors add bright pops that are both unexpected and aesthetically pleasing.
This Fashionista did an exceptional job creating a unique outfit by throwing a pair of black-stripped tights on under her solid gray skirt. But she doesn’t stop there. By adding high socks and black patent leather oxfords, this trendsetter makes a bold statement. Tights are the perfect way to add your own individual twist on an outfit, and the best part: it’s easy and you can find a good pair for pretty cheap. Easy and cheap are two words that I’m sure many of us college gals love to hear in the same sentence. This winter season, skip out on boring grays and blacks and try experimenting with patterns and colors – you’ll feel adventurous while looking fabulous.
Hint: While monochromatic outfits are undoubtedly in this season, avoid looking like an Avatar in an all blue outfit with blue tights, and try pairing your pieces with contrasting colors and textures. Don’t be afraid to wear open toed shoes but make sure the lining on the toe is absent which looks much cleaner.
