The thoughts expressed in this story were mine as I went to andfrom my car last night. Luckily, I made it back to my car.
6:30 p.m.
Driving, driving, driving. Security is everywhere, directing usaway from the parking structures closed to students. Heard the lotswere going to be closed to students who pay for parking so thoseattending the Aztec game have somewhere to park. I know. I’m beingselfish.
Wow, for all the security at the other lots, there isn’t a soul tobe seen down here in Lot X, the pit. Lots of cars, but no security. Ibetter make sure I lock my car. The stairs are lit up so it should beokay. With all these cars down here, I’m sure someone will be walkingback to the lot when I am. I don’t like this alley before Storm Hall.Lots of bushes and it’s dark. No one is around either. Where is oneof those blue emergency polls?
10:30 p.m.
I’m tired. I have a long walk to my car but at least it’s notraining yet. I better have my keys ready so I can bolt to my car. Here’s that alley again. How was I told to hold my keys in thatself-defense TV show I saw? There is no one around! Just walk fastand just get to the car. Walk faster. Okay, I made it to the top ofthe stairs, and I can see my car. There has to be a college policeofficer down there somewhere, but I can’t see one. I’ll be okay. Justget to the car. Got my keys? Yes, I have my keys. Wow, this guy isjust getting here. The other lots must still be closed or else whywould anyone decide to park down here. “Hi” I say as we pass eachother on the stairs.
“Hey! What are you doing. Let go of me. Stop!”
Unfortunately, this is not an exaggerated story. It can and willhappen if SDSU doesn’t get it’s priorities straight and startprotecting its students.

BA graduate pro-Bush, anti-editorial
I would like to address the opinion editorial, “Three weeks in andAmerica’s already bushed” (Staff, Feb. 5).
The staff editors rhetorically questioned who voted for PresidentGeorge W. Bush, if not the majority of Americans. The 271 electorsfrom the 30 states won by Bush were sufficient for the Constitutionto recognize him as the nation’s leader.
The staff editorial chastised Bush on several topics.
By cutting federal dollars to fund abortion overseas, PresidentBush has not limited the rights of women. Women can still get thesame medical attention, but the U.S. taxpayers will not flip thebill.
Attorney General John Ashcroft is not a racist. Most oppose hisideology, which is influenced by his religious beliefs.
President Bush is not trying to unite the church and the state, but rather create initiatives in which the government paysfaith-based organizations to accomplish needed social services.
President Bush is not going to blow the surplus on a hefty taxcut. The Federal Reserve Chairman, Alan Greenspan, informed ourpoliticians that the growing surplus could meet the Bush tax cut planwhile still paying down the national debt.
President Bush does not want to resume the Cold War with Russiaand China. The defense of our nation is not an act of aggression, butrather one of self-preservation.
Not even the left-leaning newspapers New York Times or WashingtonPost have given Bush such a degraded review.

Baseball cover well-written
David, I am a faculty member in the School of Social Work, and Ijust wanted to say how impressed I was by your story on the baseballcoach (“The face of SDSU baseball,” David Cordero, Feb. 8). I thinkit will make the readers think about all the coaches here and whattheir values are or should be. It was very well written and wentbeyond what sports writers normally observe. Keep up the good work.
