Top five study cafes

Are noisy roommates and barking dogs minimizing valuable study time? The Daily Aztec understands, which is why it’s compiled a handy list of the best places to study within a 5-mile radius of campus. Grab a latte or croissant and relax at one of these five comfortable cafés, all of which offer free Wi-Fi.

1. Lestat’s Coffee House
3343 Adams Ave.
Two words: 24 hours. This funky café undoubtedly tops the list because it literally never closes. In addition to a variety of delicious espresso and tea-based beverages, this Normal Heights café also offers a plethora of pastries and lunching options. It recently purchased and renovated the building next door, adding more space for late night cramming sessions.

2. Twiggs Bakery and Coffeehouse

2804 Adams Ave., 4590 Park Blvd.
Two locations in University Heights give this understated coffeehouse an edge. While both spots can get busy, there is almost always at least one empty chair. The staff fosters a laid-back atmosphere and most of its mouth-watering baked goods are made in-house.

3. The Living Room Café
5900 El Cajon Blvd.
This El Cajon Boulevard location earned a spot on the list because of its proximity to campus, but The Living Room brand is practically an institution in San Diego, staking other sites in Old Town, Point Loma, National City and La Jolla.
“It is a coffee shop cleverly disguised as a big living room with comfortable couches, tables and good food and drinks,” sociology senior Casey Martin said.

4. Claire de Lune Coffee Lounge
2906 University Ave.
Lounge, indeed. This North Park café is the perfect place to spend a rainy afternoon that might otherwise be wasted on “Family Guy” reruns. A perfect people-watching spot, Claire de Lune features a large lunch menu, a tempting amount of dessert options and an overall beautiful décor.

5. Milano Coffee Co.
8685 Rio San Diego Dr.
For students living in Mission Valley, Milano Coffee Co., located at the Promenade Rio Vista Apartments, (four convenient trolley stops from San Diego State) is a welcoming alternative to the many Starbucks that inhabit the area. Milano boasts an extensive beverage list as well as fresh and affordable snacking options.
