What is your main goal for the position?

My main goal for this position is to work with students to make sure they are aware, comfortable and engaged within their respective college councils.  By creating a “home base” for students to connect to, we will be more inclined to utilize the academic, social and networking opportunities within college councils.  Furthermore, I want all students to feel as though they are being supported, including commuter students. I will work to further engage these students and bring light to the opportunities on campus, in order to foster a deeper campus connection.

Why do you think you would be a good fit?

As an out-of-state student, originally from Long Island, N.Y., San Diego State has become my home away from home, and I truly believe in the Aztec family we have on campus.  Over the years, I have been actively engaged with student life and have worked with many students to understand the direction of growth our university is heading towards.  I have been involved with Associated Students for three years, sat on multiple boards and commissions that relate to the position of vice president of university affairs and know the needs of the students that can be improved through the position.  I look forward to working directly with students and know they’ll find a dedicated and enthusiastic leader in me.

What are some past leadership experiences that have prepared you for the position?

Currently, I am completing a two-year term as student support commissioner for A.S., which has given me a unique perspective of the needs students have on campus and how best to work with the university in addressing them. Through my three years of experience as a member of the University Affairs Board, chaired by the Vice president of university affairs, I’ve worked closely with other students and administration in regards to campus policies and procedures affecting student life.  Involvement in other organizations, like serving as former president of Phi Delta Theta, has given me the experience as a leader within the Greek community to understand the role as a representative of student needs and concerns.

What other campus affiliations do you have?

I currently work in the out-of-state admissions office as a student recruitment assistant. This position gives me the opportunity to help prospective and accepted students with any application questions, guidance and support while on their path to becoming an Aztec.  I have also been the scholarship director for the Interfraternity Council, Cuicacalli Suites Representative for the Residence Hall Association, a member of the Commuter Student Success strategic planning committee and member of the University Senate Constitutions and Bylaws Committee.

What is one interesting thing about you?

I have arachnophobia and have literally fainted at the sight of a big spider once.
