Aztecs update: This will be the Aztecs last game before they go ona one month hiatus over the winter break. The Aztecs will look tobounce back after their last effort in Utah where the club was beaten8 – 1 by the West region’s No. 1 ranked Utah State and 9-2 by thedivision’s No. 5 ranked University of Utah.
Aztecs head coach Greg Friedman’s squad will have to improve theirplay if the club has any chance at making the playoffs. Right now theAztecs sit at 2-6 in the tough American Collegiate Hockey Associationand the club’s performance in Utah left something to be desired.
Team captain and star defenseman Richard Alexander still believesthat the Aztecs have a chance to be a factor during the second halfof the season.
“We really didn’t play good team defense in Utah,” Alexander said.”I think we are better than how we have performed and I think we willstart to show that. We know what we have to do to win games, we justneed to start executing.”
The Aztecs will look to get offensive weapons D.C. Munch (sevengoals, four assists), and Grant Alexander (six goals, six assists)into a better flow Saturday against CSU Fullerton. The club hasn’treally played a perfect game like they often did last season whenthey racked up a 16-1 record and a Kings Cup title.
“Basically our goal is be a physical hockey team,” RichardAlexander said. “We need to take teams out of their rhythm and movethe puck more efficiently to start winning some games. If thosethings happen we will be alright.”
