Name: Washington Navarrete
Position running for: Vice President of University Affairs
Major: Criminal Justice with a minor in Chicana and Chicano studies
Year: Senior
My experience:
Currently serving as the Diversity Commissioner of Associated Students, member of the GreenFest Executive Committee and student designee on one of the task forces for San Diego State’s Strategic Plan. I have Aztec Pride, without a doubt.
Other leadership includes serving two terms as a voting member of the A.S. Council, the current vice chair of the Student Diversity Commission, previous chair of M.E.Ch.A de SDSU and active member of several student organizations.
What I would do differently than my predecessor…
With our new government structure, all of the executive officers are pushed to bring in a strong vision for A.S. If elected, something I would do differently is, while setting both my team’s and my own goals for the year, set goals with the newly established University Council and the College Council Presidents Association so we all have a collective vision.
What makes me different…
Through the various organizations that I am involved in, there is one thing in common between them all—I am fully committed to empowering all Aztecs. I have been blessed with an opportunity to work with diverse student organizations and I have met strong leaders throughout all parts of campus through the communities that I have strived to connect and bridge. I am confident in my skills to build the community and work with students who have diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
If I could change one thing about SDSU…
It would be providing more classes for students to choose from. Having more classes would open up opportunities for all Aztecs to have a chance to develop their academic career to better reflect their interests.
If elected, my No. 1 priority would be…
It would be to work closely with the University Senate and administration to implement SDSU’s Strategic Plan. This plan has been made on behalf of the university to give us a shared vision to follow for the next five years. It is crucial that students remain active in this process for the betterment of our university.

Name: Morgan Chan
Position running for: Vice President of University Affairs
Major(s): Integrated marketing communications and sustainability
Year: Junior
My experience:
For the past two years, I have served as Associated Students sustainability commissioner. I also currently serve as vice president of campus outreach for the Enviro-Business Society, where I collaborate with other student organizations to build stronger relationships with the students, faculty and administrators.
What I would do differently than my predecessor…
If elected, I would bring more attention to campus safety and the advancement of sustainability efforts across campus. I would ensure students are informed of the services offered by public safety, such as the library shuttle and escort service, and offer additional programs so students feel comfortable and safe on and around campus. Additionally, I would work toward putting San Diego State on the map as a leading university in sustainability. I would look at improving infrastructure for students to use alternative modes of transportation, seek resources for on-campus renewable energy projects and further the integration of sustainability in curriculum.
What makes me different…
The commitment and devotion I have to supporting A.S.; values make me different from others on campus. For any project or program I work on, within A.S. or another organization, I strive to integrate the eight values A.S. has been built around.
If I could change one thing about SDSU…
If I could change one thing about SDSU, it would be more engagement by students on campus. I would improve programming to encourage students to come out to all sporting events and I would create more opportunities for students to get involved in their colleges and student organizations. Lastly, I‘d strive to connect commuter students to our campus community.
If elected, my No. 1 priority would be…
To increase student engagement on campus through improved programming, opportunities for students to get involved in their colleges and by strengthening the connections for commuter students to our campus community.
