Take care of your holiday shopping at home

Imagine if you could do all of your holiday shopping and planning without leaving your home.

No jam-packed aisles, full parking lots or last-minute reservations. Everything can be neatly wrapped and sent off with the push of a few buttons.

Doesn’t it sound nice?

It is possible.

If you missed out on all of the big sales this weekend and you’re too afraid to set foot in the overcrowded malls, you can finish your holiday shopping on the Internet.

Many popular stores have Web sites, and if you are using an encryption-capable browser such as Netscape Navigator, Micosoft Internet Explorer or America On-Line 3.0, your credit card information will be secure when you order.

If you feel hesitant about giving out your credit card number over the Internet, you can still get some great gift ideas all without leaving your desk chair. But you’d still have to go to the mall, or perhaps you could get someone else to go for you.

Here are some sites to help get you through the frenzy called holiday shopping.

1-800-Music Now

At this site, you can search for, listen to and buy just about any cassette or CD. You can also purchase T-shirts and other artist-related clothing.

After browsing the database or typing in a particular artist, you can preview your selection before you decide to buy. To listen to the songs, you must have Real Audio software.

The CDs or cassettes are at store prices.

The address is www.1800musicnow .mci.com.

1-800-Flowers

Why not send the people you love flowers for the holidays?

You can order flowers by occasion and preview certain arrangements before you buy.

There is a $4.95 service charge, and most orders can be delivered the same day or the next day, depending on what time you place your order.

The address is www.1800flowers.com.

Book Stacks Unlimited

Search through more than 410,000 titles to find the perfect reading material for that special someone.

You can search by title, author or key words.

Once you choose the books you want, just put them in your “book bag” and head to the checkout.

Most books are discounted by 15 percent.

The address is www.Books.com.

98Perfume

At this site, you can choose from more than 1,600 brand name perfumes and colognes for men and women.

98Perfume offers a delivery service that will get your order to you within days.

Unlike the other sites, you must call a toll-free number to place your order. The number is 1-800-98Perfume.

The web address is www.98Perfume .com.

University Towne Center

For something a little closer to home, browse the UTC Web site.

While you cannot make any purchases, you can get coupons for many of the mall’s stores.

Go to the Cyber-Savings section, click on the store where you’d like to get a discount, print out the coupon and take it to UTC.

The address is www.shoputc.com.

Reservations.com

Now for the holiday travel plans. These can be completed on your computer, and tickets will be mailed to you within days.

One on-line travel center, Reservations.com, is a service of Preview Travel.

The site provides schedules, fares and tickets for more than 700 airlines worldwide.

Just type in your travel plans, and you will be shown available flights and fares. The “Best Fare” feature will automatically present the three cheapest fares around the time you’d like to travel.

There is no fee for accessing the system or for issuing tickets.

The address is www.reservations.com.

Easy Sabre

This is another travel planning site at which you can reserve and purchase plane tickets. You can also make hotel and car rental reservations.

It has schedules for more than 700 airlines and has reservation and ticketing capability for more than 410.

The “FlightFinder” feature finds the three lowest cost itineraries.

The address is www.easysabre.com.

Happy hunting!
