Opponent: Cal State Northridge.
Site: Tony Gwynn Stadium.
When: 5 p.m.
Records: CSUN (31-16-1); San Diego State (27-13-1; 10-8 Western Athletic Conference)
Matadors to watch: Junior shortstop Adam Kennedy and senior right fielder Jose Miranda are the heart and soul of the CSUN offensive attack. The tandem has started every game for head coach Mike Batesole. Kennedy is batting .441 with 19 home runs and 65 RBIs. Miranda boasts a .394 average with 18 home runs and 65 RBIs. Senior right hander Jason Cole is the probable starting pitcher for the Matadors. He has a 3.45 earned run average in 17 appearances.
Aztecs to watch: Junior outfielder/first baseman Andy Bevins is swinging a hot bat of late, posting a .524 average with three doubles, three home runs, and 14 RBIs in his last 10 games. Junior center fielder Stewart Smothers is coming off a three-hit game against Hawaii in which he led off with a home run.
Injury report: Catcher Jason Phillips is listed as 50-50 for tonight’s game after being hit by a pitch in the left elbow against Hawaii. If he is unable to play, look for Rob Coddington to step in and fill the void. Coddington is a more than able reserve. He was first-team All-Western Athletic Conference last season at Wyoming before transferring to Montezuma Mesa.
Bombs away: The Matadors have mashed an astounding 81 home runs this season while knocking 197 extra base hits.
