Road trips are supposed to be fun. However, when you are Davidgoing to meet Goliath, it could seem a little intimidating.
San Diego State’s women’s tennis team is heading off to play itsmost difficult road trip of the season this weekend. No. 42 SDSU(5-2) will take on No. 14 California (5-1) on Friday at 1:30 p.m. inBerkeley. The Aztecs then head over to face No. 3 Stanford (8-1) onSaturday at noon.
Given the rankings, if SDSU manages to make it home with even onewin from this weekend, it would be a huge upset.
“I am excited,” Mattera said. “I think if we go out there and justplay confident, relaxed tennis, there is nobody on our schedule wecould not beat, those teams included.”
SDSU has so far faced its toughest competition on the road wherethey are winless in two tries. On the other hand, the Aztecs areundefeated at home and have a home winning streak of 10 matchesdating back to last season.
SDSU will need to keep its winning momentum heading into theweekend, because the Bears are fresh off their first loss of theseason. The loss was a 7-0 whipping served up by none other than (youguessed it) Stanford. The stomping took place in Berkeley, no less.
But the Aztecs do not seem to be intimidated.
“I am totally excited,” junior Lindsey Hedberg said. “They are thebest of the best, and this is going to show us how we compare againstthem.”
