One of the latest shake-ups at the White House came last Tuesday when President Bush’s chief of staff, Andy Card, resigned amid a steady barrage of criticism from both sides of the aisle.
The Bush administration is under a lot of heat over the endless quagmire in Iraq, the slow response in helping the victims of Hurricane Katrina, and, most recently, the administration’s controversial idea of using Arab-owned companies to inspect ports in Southern California.
While pundits snicker that Card was chosen to be the sacrificial lamb in response to Bush’s worst poll results yet – the latest AP-Ipsos poll had his job approval at 37 percent – the official spin will be that Card resigned because he was simply exhausted – he’s been on the President’s staff from the beginning.
“On most days, Andy is the first one to arrive in the West Wing and the last one to leave,” Bush said according to The Washington Post.
As if he would know.
