Despite a valiant effort, the San Diego State men’s soccer teamfell to Loyola Marymount 2-0 in Los Angeles yesterday. The Aztecs(7-6-2) dominated ball possession and controlled the tempo for mostof the game.
TheLions (10-6-1) are already a favorite to make it far in the NCAATournament.
Even with the loss, the game gave freshman goalkeeper Tally Hallan opportunity to showcase himself for an entire game. Hall had manystandout saves and also stopped a penalty kick.
“I was very impressed with our young freshman today,” head coachLev Kirshner said. “He is a great goalkeeper of all-American talentswho I am sure will be very productive for this team in the months tocome.”
Although defeating a top-20 team like LMU would have been a greatachievement, it would not have lightened the task at hand for SDSU.
To make the NCAA Tournament, the Aztecs have to win the MountainPacific Sports Federation Tournament.
The conference tournament will be played in Sacramento next week.
“I think that if we play the way this team is capable of(playing), we will have a great chance at making the NCAATournament,” senior goalkeeper Colin Hanke said. “We dominated thisgame, but were just unlucky a couple of times and that was thedifference.”
The Aztecs’ final regular season games are Friday at the Air ForceAcademy and Sunday in New Mexico.
