If it hasn’t already been established as a fact, then it should be mentioned that the construction of sound waves is a true art form, one that requires talent, skill and the courage to experiment.
The band Eye Alaska puts these qualities to work as it incorporates a plethora of inimitable sounds to produce its brand of music. The Orange County-based quartet implements numerous instruments to create a refreshingly familiar sound. In a recent interview with The Daily Aztec, lead vocalist Brandon Wronski described how he’d define his genre. “I listen to so many different types of music, and the whole premise of Eye Alaska is to not limit ourselves to making one type of music. So, combining everything from hip-hop, to rock, country, hardcore, pop, jazz, really everything under the sun, I feel makes Eye Alaska something a little different,” he said.
When listening to Eye Alaska, the moment the “play” button is pressed, a bit of a musical adventure begins. Its EP “Yellow & Elephant” gives hard evidence to that statement. The album, released by Fearless Records, has much to offer, whether the song has strings, inventive percussions or the sounds of nature itself, each track brings something new and interesting.
For the most part, every song is easy to listen to and with smooth-flowing music and matching vocals, the album is without a doubt something to keep around so it can easily be reached for. It should be noted that to get a full grasp of the band’s music, the listener cannot simply listen to a song or two. Wronski echoes these sentiments: “It’s sometimes difficult because people don’t know how to react to us at first,” he said. “If a person just hears one song, they can think of us as something totally different than what we are as a collective.” Eye Alaska was recently rewarded for its musical artistry and has been signed by Fearless Records. It is now currently on tour with the band Ludo.
