Old-school renewal at new-school bar

Old-school renewal at new-school bar

There’s no lack of cuffed jeans, fedoras or handlebar mustaches on the corner of 30th Street and Adams Avenue in Normal Heights. This is all, in great part, thanks to the opening of Polite Provisions.

Truth be told, it’s swarming with hipsters, but they might be onto something. With modernized old-school cocktails, arguably some of the best bartenders in town and a unique vibe that has yet to be rivaled, Polite Provisions is more than just a hipster hangout.

Instead of picking a pitcher, punch bowls offer unique kick and flavor.  For example, the Gold Coast Punch is a tasty blend of blanco tequila, apple brandy, fresh citrus juices and homemade grenadine.

Cocktail expert and San Diego State alumnus Erick Castro and a team of mixologists create some uncanny creations such as champagne cocktails, liquid desserts and homemade sodas.  For those worrying about their beloved beers, it also has offers cocktails such as the spicy Amaro Filter, a mixture of Irish whiskey, lime, Averna, brown sugar and porter.

The decor of Polite Provisions alone is worth the trip. Indoor street lamps, marble backdrops, velvet-cushioned stools, bronze statues and a solarium-like glass ceiling all create a unique ambiance.

If you’re looking for a bite to eat with your booze, Soda & Swine next door will serve a mean meatball right to your marble-top table at the bar.

For your next night out, skip the flashy nightclubs and settle into Polite Provisions to soak in your newly found coolness.
