Serious record shoppers know that San Diego County’s biggest and best record store is just a drive up Pacific Coast Highway 101.
Opened in 1980, Lou’s Records in Encinitas is composed of two buildings: one has new CDs and vinyl, and the other has used CDs, vinyl and new and used DVDs.
Lou’s music catalog is unrivaled, and the towering library-like shelves are stacked full, which can make things difficult to find. But not to worry, the store’s friendly, knowledgeable staff will point you in the right direction.
Although you could spend a while browsing the new CDs and vinyl, don’t forget to look through the store’s vast used collection. Among the standard used music fare – Peter Frampton records and Chumbawamba CDs – are hidden gems, lurking in the bargain bins.
The store hosts frequent in-store signings and free performances. To keep up to date on what’s happening at Lou’s, visit the Web site.
