Musical Taste:
I personally subscribe to the idea that there are only two types of music in the world: good music and bad music. Any song that makes you want to punch a hole in the wall, get down and breakdance, rave until you can’t stand, reach hallucinogenic nirvana, or thug your face off is a good song. Anything that sparks something in your core being is a good song, anything that allows you to forget about the mundane day to day bullshit is something that’s worth listening to. Whether that’s Neutral Milk Hotel’s in an “Aeroplane Over the Sea” or Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance” (ga ga ooh la la) it doesn’t matter, and that’s always been my philosophy and I think it’s worked out for me pretty well so far.
Last 5 Artists Listened to:
The National, The Strokes, Manchester Orchestra, Everclear, Queens of the Stone Age.
My preferred way of getting music:
My preferred way of getting music, obviously I would love to get fantastic music from live shows but I just don’t go to enough shows to get the amount of music I need to keep living so I usually have to resort to more nefarious means of obtaining music by which I mean getting a bunch of music from friends (insert winking face here)
Put together a show:
Put together a show of 3 artists alive or dead? Jesus, um that is a really hard question to answer. Hmm I would go Neutral Milk Hotel, The Who (circa 1968), and Bob Marley. It seems like an eclectic mix but if you had those three headliners and everyone who went was down with all three or at least open minded to what they were about to see I think literally everyone there would have their mind completely blown, I know I would. I would probably break down in tears 5 minutes into the opening band just because I’m going to have the opportunity shortly after everyone’s face would melt off from the sheer amount of awesome-ness and we would all die and go to some crazy rock and roll heaven with strippers and jager bomb fountains.
My first album:
My first album that I actually went out and bought was Backstreet Boys’ millenium I think. Yep I’m not even ashamed of it I was 9 years old and they were catchy as hell so don’t worry about it. I was also brought up on lynyrd skynyrd, counting crows, and various 90’s alternative rock so my early childhood wasn’t a complete waste in terms of musical influence.
Favorite spot for music in SD:
I’m not really sure yet, I am still just a youngster so for at least a while longer I’m confined to the all ages venues so it would be between the Soma and the House of Blues even though The Soma smells and looks like an armpit and the House of Blues tends to make a habit of telling Entertainment editors that they have free tickets only to get there and then tell them that they were apparently “just kidding lolz”. But I’ve seen fantastic artists at both so I guess I can’t complain and they sure beat the hell out of the sacramento venues that I was restricted to as a kid (all none of them).
SDSU music scene:
What music scene? The only music I tend to hear blasting is either the latest auto tuned drivel about getting slizzered or about how awesome sex with random girls is. The bands that play at Aztec Center are sometimes okay but most of the time they are not and the only thing left are the random musicians that play on Thursdays at the Market which are usually alright but not something I would sit down and listen to. But then again it is kind of difficult to have a real “scene” on a college campus but hey I’m all for one if anybody wants to get it started.
