The San Diego State men’s basketball team broke a new preseason record Friday for the second time in school history according to the latest Associated Press Top-25 Poll.
In the latest rankings, the Aztecs received 560 votes, eight more than last season’s National Champion University of Connecticut. Head coach Steve Fisher and his team will begin the 2014-15 campaign ranked No. 16 overall in the nation.
Before the 2010-11 campaign, SDSU cracked the AP Top-25 preseason for the first time in school history at No. 25. Before the 2012-13 season, the Aztecs also landed a preseason ranking at No. 20.
A preseason record ranking of No. 16 this year has only added higher expectations to this year’s team. Fans can catch No. 16 SDSU in action for the first time next week at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 7 at Viejas Arena when they welcome the Point Loma Nazarene University Sea Lions to Montezuma Mesa.
