Dancing shoes are the only footwear appropriate for Saturday’s show at House of Blues. Indie rockers Two Door Cinema Club are stopping in town while on tour with Grouplove. Ireland based Two Door Cinema Club, comprised of Kevin Baird, Alex Trimble and Sam Halliday, is a play off the vintage Irish theater Tudor Cinema.
The trio formed in 2007 and released their first EP in 2009, “Four Words to Stand On,” which gained the band popularity in the United Kingdom, and allowed it to record and release its debut record in the U.K., Europe, and in the U.S. in 2010. “Tourist History” is a rousing 10-track collection of feet-shuffling dance hall indie-pop.
It opens with the high-energy “Cigarettes in the Theatre,” which is full of panicky guitar and trumpet combos. Halfway through a listen, the ability to achieve the musical impossible becomes inherently possible with the swelling energy and power from each track. Standout tracks include, “This is the Life,” which plays off the brightness of synth-pop and is the easiest sing-along track on the album. “Eat That Up, It’s Good for You” is a great anthemic song, filled with cheerful electronic beats dancing with spicy guitar riffs backing up strong lyrics. The line, “It’s not the same …” steals the last half of the song as the cherry-on-top to a perfect soundtrack-to-life song.
After performing at Coachella and Glastonbury festivals earlier this year, Two Door Cinema Club has headed on the road with Grouplove and The Lonely Forest. Grouplove is a Los Angeles-based band with a unique gritty acoustic-harmonic sound. Their debut album “Never Trust a Happy Song” was released earlier this month.
Two Door Cinema Club plays this Saturday at House of Blues. Tickets are priced from $20 to $37.50.
