Opponent: Southern Methodist (17-5, 9-2 in Western Athletic Conference play)
Where: Cox Arena
When: 7 p.m.
SDSU update: This is the Aztecs’ second game since guard Deidra Rucker was kicked off the team for disciplinary reasons. While SDSU (8-12, 3-7 WAC) rebounds from that, it’s still fighting for a spot in the WAC Tournament next month.
In their last outing on Saturday, the Aztecs beat Air Force 78-54. However, it didn’t count in the conference standings because it was a crossover game.
Aztecs to watch: “We’re all gonna have to step up,” forward Anita Bundage said. Since senior and leading scorer Olivia DiCamilli is already out with a foot injury, that becomes doubly true. Center Courtney Bale is the team’s leading available scorer (11.5 ppg).
SMU update: The Mustangs have all but clinched second place in the WAC’s Pacific Division, ensuring them a first-round bye in the tournament. Their last game was a 75-61 win over Fresno State Saturday.
Mustangs to watch: The key to SMU’s season may be forward Karlin Kennedy, who’s averaging 16.8 points a game. “I still think Karlin could be playing better than she is. She’s one of the most complete players that has ever played here,” coach Rhonda Rompola said.
