San Diego State had better hope there’s truth in the saying, “third time’s the charm.”
SDSU’s men’s soccer team reached the NCAA Tournament for the second straight year, and the Aztecs are facing a familiar foe.
SDSU’s second foray into the big dance begins at 1 p.m. Saturday at Harder Stadium at UC Santa Barbara. The two teams played in the first round of last year’s NCAA Tournament, with the Gauchos winning 2-0. In a rematch of the first-round game on Sept. 2 in Santa Barbara, UCSB was again victorious, 1-0.
The Aztecs finished 2006 with a 9-5-4 overall record and second in the Pac-10 (5-2-3). SDSU went unbeaten in its last five games, winning two and tying three times.
UCSB finished the year 12-7, winning the Big West Conference with a 7-3 record.
