San Diego State wasn’t exactly loaded with experienced tight ends coming into spring practice.
Junior Eric Miclot and junior Lance Louis caught just a combined 14 passes last season.
But the situation has gone from bad to worse.
Last week, The San Diego Union-Tribune reported the Miclot will miss next season after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament.
Now, Louis tore his ACL, too, The U-T reported Wednesday.
“The thing that we were initially having problems with was that we thought we had so much talent at the position that we were trying to figure out how to get two or three (tight ends) on the field at the same time,” tight ends coach Toby Neinas told The U-T. “Obviously, that idea is now out.”
The situation has gotten so bad that, according to The U-T, redshirt freshman Waika Spencer was the only tight end capable of playing in the second spring scrimmage last Saturday.
