San Diego Gas and Electric customers were left in the dark at 10:18 a.m. on Wednesday.

The south side of San Diego State was one of the areas affected. According to the SDSU website, the power outages caused University Towers, Fraternity Row, Piedra

Del Sol, Aztec Corner, Montezuma classrooms, the Granada on Hardy, USE Credit Union and other establishments to be without electricity for several hours. Traffic lights in the area were also affected.

SDSU’s USE Credit Union’s mobile banking unit had to close early because without electricity, the branch was unable to continue business.

Other areas in San Diego such as City Heights, Chollas Creek, Oak Park, Kensington, Talmadge andRolando were also affected.

The accident occurred at the corner of Montezuma Road and 55th Street behind Aztec Corner apartments at the construction site on Lindo Paseo.

SDG&E spokesperson, Allison Zaragoza said a crane hit an SDG&E power line causing the power outage. The name of the construction company responsible has yet to be released, because the incident is currently being investigated.

SDG&E received a customer call about the electricity being down and the company immediately sent out a team of construction troubleshooters to the site.

“We were unable to reach our noon deadline because we had to inspect the line to check for additionaldamage, and minor repairs were needed,” Zaragoza said.

At 2:45 p.m. all of the College Area was back up and running with power.
